Collaborate

We worked in 1-week sprints, each week coming together to rapidly ideate and iterate together and co-work on content and material for the site and its ancillary parts. First, we collaborated through a mini-design thinking workshop to figure out who we were targeting and their needs.

The persona we focused on was Mark who is activism-curious but may not have a deep understanding of how to get involved. The perceived high-barrier to entry to be an antiracism activist puts Mark off of typically engaging with antiracism work in his community, though his own interest may be high.

We hypothesized that Mark would need:

  • A way to engage with different types of voices and stories from marginalized communities

  • A way to turn his learnings into action

  • A way to roleplay or otherwise practice antiracism confrontation in his life

  • A way to connect or see others who are also beginning their activism journey

To meet these different needs, we came up with big ideas that fit under the umbrella of one activation kit. First, a collection of easily accessible resources that currently exist curated under different learning styles. Second, a workbook that would help folks to engage and hold themselves accountable to antiracism work. Finally, training that would help others nurture a sense of community and a place to safely discuss antiracism.
